Univercell
Big Steam Print Project
Univercell is a series of print created with through the Big Steam Print Project.
The piece of lino that I used is 1m2 large, it took me more than 30 hours to carve it. For my design I worked on cells; human, as well as vegetable ones, that inspired me. I liked the accumulation of that simple but unique shape that the cells have. I think that the contrast of the black and the white helps to reveal the really strict aspect of the cells.
The Big Steam Print project was organised by the Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft. The project consisted of printing large linocuts with a 90-years-old steamroller. It was organised in several live events in different places. The one I participated in was at the London Transport Museum Depot in Acton depot, on the 24th of April.
The steamroller rolling onto them acted like a press, creating this texture of the prints.
Later on, I printed it again in the studio this time. The shapes are appearing really well and I really appreciated being able to see my whole design all perfectly. Even if the texture of the previous ones is really interesting.
Following the Big Steam Print event, my print got selected to be exhibited. I had the chance to have my work shown for a month at the Phoenix Gallery in Brighton.
Those are the final prints that came out of this project.
